Saving Lives: The United Hatzalah Ambucycle Story

By Natalie Scott | Published on

Imagine you or your loved one are in a medical emergency, and every second counts. You need immediate medical attention, but the ambulance is stuck in traffic. What do you do? This was a common problem in my neighborhood growing up, but one man’s determination to save lives led to the creation of a game-changing solution - the ambucycle.

The ambucycle is an ambulance on two wheels that has everything an ambulance has except for a bed. It has a defibrillator, medical equipment, and can even go on a sidewalk if necessary. This makes it the fastest way to reach any medical emergency. You see, the traffic in my neighborhood was terrible, and the ambulance would often arrive too late to save lives.

But that’s not the only problem with ambulances. When I was 15, I took an EMT course and volunteered on an ambulance. I helped many people, but whenever someone really needed help, we never got there in time. The distance, the traffic, and everything else made it impossible to get there quickly. That’s when I realized that there must be a better way.

Together with 15 of my friends, we decided to protect our neighborhood by being the first responders to any medical emergency. We would stop everything we were doing and run to the scene a lot before the ambulance. We called ourselves United Hatzalah, which means “rescue” in Hebrew.

But we needed a way to get there quickly, and that’s when we came up with the idea of the ambucycle. It’s small, fast, and can navigate through traffic with ease. We don’t transfer people, but we stabilize them and save their lives. The ambucycle is a game-changer because it never gets stuck in traffic, which means we can get to a medical emergency within minutes.

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and the use of technology, United Hatzalah has been able to reduce response times in Israel to less than three minutes. We’re not here to replace ambulances, but we are here to bridge the gap between the ambulance call and their arrival. We save people that otherwise would not be saved.

The ambucycle is just one part of the solution, but it’s a crucial one. It’s allowed us to save countless lives in my neighborhood and beyond. I’m proud to be a part of United Hatzalah, and I hope our story inspires others to take action and save lives in their communities.

When I was a child, I witnessed a tragedy that would shape the rest of my life. I was walking back from school with my older brother when we saw a bus blow up in front of our eyes. The bus was on fire, and many people were hurt and killed. I remembered an old man crying out for help, but we were too scared to do anything. We ran away.

That experience stayed with me, and as I grew up, I knew I wanted to become a doctor and save lives. I took an EMT course when I was 15 and volunteered on an ambulance for two years, but I was frustrated that we never got to the scene of a medical emergency quickly enough. One day, we received a call about a seven-year-old child choking from a hot dog. We arrived 20 minutes later, but it was too late. The child had already died.

It was at that moment that I knew there had to be a better way. I was determined to find a solution that would allow us to save lives in my neighborhood. I approached the manager of the ambulance company and asked him to alert me and my friends whenever there was a call in our neighborhood. He laughed and told me to go to school or open a falafel stand.

But I didn’t give up. I bought two police scanners and started listening in on calls. When I heard about a 70-year-old man who had been hit by a car only one block away from me, I ran to the scene. I had no medical equipment, but I knew I had to stop his bleeding or he would die. With a lot of pressure, I stopped the bleeding, and when the ambulance arrived 15 minutes later, I gave them a patient who was alive.

That experience showed me that I could make a difference, and it became my life’s mission to save lives. I founded United Hatzalah with 15 of my friends, and we began responding to medical emergencies in our neighborhood. We used technology and the ambucycle to reduce response times, and we saved lives that otherwise would not be saved.

My personal tragedy inspired me to take action, but anyone can be a hero and save lives in their community. All it takes is determination, passion, and the belief that you can make a difference.

When I founded United Hatzalah, I knew that I couldn’t do it alone. I needed the help of others who shared my passion for saving lives. I was amazed by the response I received from the community. Thousands of volunteers came forward, willing to drop everything at a moment’s notice and run to the scene of a medical emergency.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and all backgrounds. They are passionate about saving lives and helping those in need. They are not there to replace ambulances, but rather to bridge the gap between the time a call is received and the arrival of an ambulance. Our average response time in Israel is less than three minutes, and we are able to respond to a wide range of emergencies, from heart attacks and car accidents to bomb attacks and shootings.

One of the reasons we are so successful is because of our technology. Every volunteer has a GPS on their phone, which allows us to quickly and easily dispatch the five closest volunteers to the scene of an emergency. This reduces response times and ensures that help arrives as quickly as possible.

Another reason for our success is our use of ambucycles. These vehicles are essentially ambulances on two wheels and allow us to quickly navigate through traffic and get to the scene of an emergency much faster than a traditional ambulance. We are able to stabilize patients and save their lives, even if we are unable to transport them.

But perhaps the most important reason for our success is our volunteers. They are the heart and soul of United Hatzalah. They are not paid for their services, and they come from all walks of life. They are doctors, lawyers, teachers, and students. They are young and old, religious and secular. But they all share one thing in common: the desire to help others.

Our volunteers are spread throughout Israel and have now spread to other countries, including Panama and Brazil. We have even started United Hatzalah in East Jerusalem, bringing together Jews and Arabs to save lives and build bridges between communities. It is an amazing feeling to see people from all walks of life come together for a common cause.

Creating United Hatzalah has been a lifelong mission for me, and I am grateful every day for the thousands of volunteers who share my passion for saving lives. If you are looking for a way to make a difference in your community, I encourage you to consider becoming a volunteer for United Hatzalah or another organization that shares your values. Together, we can make the world a better place.

One of the reasons why United Hatzalah has been so successful in saving lives is because of the technology we use. Israelis are known for their advancements in technology, and we’ve leveraged this expertise to reduce response times and save lives.

Every volunteer on our team has a GPS technology app called NowForce on their phone, which enables us to identify the closest five volunteers to a medical emergency and send them to the scene quickly. The app also uses traffic navigation to help the volunteers arrive on the scene as fast as possible, even if there is traffic.

In addition to the app, we use ambucycles, which are essentially two-wheeled ambulances equipped with everything except a bed. These ambucycles are incredibly useful as they allow us to maneuver through traffic quickly and even go on sidewalks if necessary.

By using technology to our advantage, we’re able to arrive at the scene of medical emergencies much faster than traditional ambulances, which has enabled us to save countless lives.

The ambucycles used by United Hatzalah are essentially ambulances on two wheels. They’re equipped with all the necessary medical equipment to stabilize a patient and save their life. What’s unique about these ambucycles is that they never get stuck in traffic.

When responding to medical emergencies, traditional ambulances can often get stuck in traffic, which can result in delayed response times and, in some cases, lives lost. Ambucycles, on the other hand, can maneuver through traffic quickly and even go on sidewalks if necessary. This means that we can arrive at the scene of a medical emergency much faster than a traditional ambulance and begin providing life-saving treatment to the patient.

The ambucycles are manned by trained volunteers who are passionate about saving lives. These volunteers are equipped with the necessary medical training to stabilize a patient until they can be transported to a hospital. By using ambucycles in addition to traditional ambulances, we’re able to reach medical emergencies faster and save lives that would otherwise be lost due to delayed response times.

United Hatzalah is a unique organization that has brought together Jews and Arabs in Israel to save lives together. When two Muslims from east Jerusalem approached the founder, they asked him to start United Hatzalah in their community after their father passed away from a cardiac arrest and no ambulance arrived for over an hour. This personal tragedy inspired the founder to expand his mission to the Arab community, and the organization has been saving lives hand in hand with both Jews and Arabs ever since. Volunteers come from all walks of life and work together for the common goal of saving lives. In the context of United Hatzalah, Jews save Muslims and Muslims save Jews, breaking down the barriers of hate and prejudice. This initiative has brought communities together in a unique way, where diversities of religions, cultures, and backgrounds no longer matter as they have found a common interest to save lives together. With the help of technology and thousands of passionate volunteers, United Hatzalah continues to make a difference and save people that otherwise would not be saved.

The success of United Hatzalah’s emergency response system in Israel has led to the organization’s global expansion. Their innovative approach has been replicated in countries around the world, saving countless lives in the process.

The idea of a community-based emergency response system has touched with people from all walks of life. United Hatzalah’s model of training volunteers and utilizing technology to reduce response times has proven effective in diverse regions and cultures.

Today, United Hatzalah has a presence in over 20 countries, including the United States, Brazil, Ukraine, and India. The organization continues to grow and evolve, adapting to the needs of each community it serves.

The global expansion of United Hatzalah is a testament to the power of people coming together to save lives. By uniting behind a common goal, volunteers of all backgrounds and beliefs are making a difference in their communities and beyond.

Have you ever felt like you could make a difference in the world if only you had the resources and opportunities? Well, Eli Beer’s story proves that all it takes to become a hero is a good idea, motivation, and chutzpah.

With a deep desire to save lives and a willingness to take risks, Eli founded United Hatzalah, an organization that has transformed emergency medical services in Israel and beyond. His idea of using volunteers and ambucycles to reduce response times has not only saved countless lives but also inspired thousands of people to become first responders.

What is remarkable about Eli’s journey is that he had no medical training or background in emergency services. He was just a regular guy who believed that he could make a difference. And he did.

So, if you have a good idea and the determination to see it through, you too can make a difference. You don’t need to be an expert in the field or have millions of dollars in funding. All it takes is the courage to act on your dreams and the persistence to overcome obstacles. Who knows, you might just release the hero inside of you and change the world for the better.

The story of United Hatzalah and its founder, Eli Beer, is truly inspiring. What started as a personal tragedy led to a lifelong mission to save lives and improve emergency medical services. With the help of dedicated volunteers, innovative technology, and a determination to break down cultural barriers, United Hatzalah has become a global force for good.

Eli Beer’s message that anyone can be a hero with a good idea, motivation, and chutzpah is one that we should all take to heart. We can all make a difference in the world if we are willing to take action and never give up. Let us be inspired by United Hatzalah’s example and strive to make a positive impact in our own communities.
